How to Delete notifications on Facebook
There are three methods to hide, stop or delete notifications on Facebook. You know how annoying it is when notifications keep coming. So here goes.
There are many reasons' why Facebook notifications can be quite a pain. This is especially true if you're a gamer and you keep getting game notifications. Also notifications from apps can be quite constant and also make a sound. If you want to turn-off notification sounds - please follow our post here.
A
1. On your News Feed choose the notification you want to hide and point the mouse to the right corner.
2. The word 'Hide' appears. Click on it
3. You are asked if you would like to hide your friend or hide to App.
4. Click on hide the App. (Would mostly be Farmville or petville)
B
1. On the top right hand corner click on 'Account'
2. Click on 'Account Settings'
3. Click on 'Notifications'
3. On the right you will see a long list of Applications that sends you notifications to turn off the notifications. Simple uncheck the box next to the application.
Update: You are now able to delete notifications that come into the Globe Icon on Facebook
To delete notifications that come into the globe icon you would need to
1. Login to Facebook
2. Click on the Globe icon
3. Scroll down and click on ' See All Notifications'
4. A new page opens with shows you all your notifications
5. If you want to delete a notifications you would need to hover on the right-hand side of the notification.
6. Click the (x) mark that appears. You will be asked to 'Mark As Spam' or if the notification is from a third party App. You will be asked to 'Change App Settings'.
7. Click on the appropriate options
8. You're done
Further Update:
Now when you click on the globe icon and then on view all notifications. You can stop all notifications from a certain app by hovering near the right-hand corner. Clicking on the (X) mark that appears and then from the drop-down choose 'Never'. All notifications from this app will then stop. This works also for friends notifications - click on the (X) mark and choose 'Never'. Will work for posts that a lot of people are replying to; groups that you get notifications from etc. A lot of notifications can be stopped by using the x mark that appears beside notifications.
Latest: You can now click the (x) that appears when you use the drop-down option to view notifications on your Globe Icon. Once the x is clicked you can choose to turnoff all notifications from the app, group or other sources.
Newest - There is now something called 'Unfollow'. Hover over the right of a notification on the Globe Icon and an (x) appears. Click on it and an Unfollow button pops up. Now you can choose to unfollow by clicking on unfollow or choose keep on to keep receiving notifications from that person.
Please reply with comments and suggestions.

Great, have finally vanquished all those annoying applications and can see my friends "real" news at last!
ReplyDeleteCan i delete notifcations that are already there? like someone tagged me in a photo and i wanna delete the notification so that if someone goes on my profile with my password cant c it?
ReplyDeleteGo to the photo and click on remove tag. It is not safe for you to allow other people access to your profile with your password. That is not done.
ReplyDeleteI get notifications on fb when someone replies on comments i left on a photo.
ReplyDelete1. how can i delete these notifications that i have already received?
2. how can i prevent new ones?
You cannot delete notifications that you have already received. To prevent new notifications on comments you left on a photo.
ReplyDelete1. Login to Facebook
2. Click on Account
3. Click on Account Settings
4. Click on Notifications
5. Scroll down to photos
6. Uncheck the box beside "Comments after me in a Photo".
HI. I wanna erase the whole "notification page" . You know where it says "see all notifications". It display all notifications by day. Can I erase that page? o make clear?
ReplyDeleteCurrently there seems no way of doing that. What you could do is go to the notifications page and disable all notifications and in a few days your " See all notifications" page should clear.
ReplyDeleteSorry for taking the same problem further; but I want to be sure whether the "See all notifications" page will clear or not. You say "in a few days"; but how many days exactly should we wait for it?
ReplyDeleteProbably in a weeks time.
ReplyDeletei'm not sure that works. i've turned off all notifications as you've said; but still i see new notifications on that page! is that normal? i don't think i'll get rid of those notifications...
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you wait for a few more days and see.
ReplyDeletehey dude Im having the same problem here!.
ReplyDeleteits very urgent for me to delete those notificatioons i have already received in my "see all notifications" page, the problem is that i have already disabled all the notification about 4 or 5 days ago and they havent dissapeared yet!! please somebody give us some answers!!
thanks
Deactivated ur account for a while
ReplyDeleteThanks for your question. I have done a whole new post on it. Please find it here. http://www.sociolatte.com/2010/07/how-to-deactivate-your-facebook-account.html
ReplyDeleteWhat about if you "like" a status or comment on a status.... How do you stop all the notifications of people commenting after you? There used to be a way, but now I can't find it.
ReplyDeleteThis can be done for stories posted on your wall but not for news feed status updates.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if enough people contacted Facebook suggesting they give us the option to delete our notifications...they just might listen and add this option.
ReplyDeleteAccount=Help Center=Using Facebook=Suggestions=Notifications
how to remove my selected notifications so that when someone login using my id cannot read it? Urgent meh.
ReplyDeleteNewbie here. I have a couple of notifications
ReplyDeletethat won't go away. Every time I login to
fb on my iPhone it says new notification - the
same one keeps popping up. I have already read it and
saw the post it was referring to. I even deleted my post under
the photo hoping that would work. Still, every time I log into
FB this "new" notification appears. The same one every time. Annoying!
Why can't facebook be more "user friendly"?
ReplyDeleteObviously they know what we want and choose not to give it to us. Getting fed up with notifications that I CAN'T remove:(
i know you might get this alot. but is there any way to delete notifications perminantley from the world icon?
ReplyDeleteYes, lot's of users want to know if notifications from the world icon can be stopped or removed. There is however no way of stopping it. Even if you turn off all notifications. The world icon still gets populated with notifications. We need to do a study and put up a list of types of notifications that come into the world icon. Working on it.
ReplyDeleteSomehow my boyfriend deletes his notifications. and i cant figure out how. he does it like once a week and its quite annoying.
ReplyDeletethere was an option at one time to delete notifications.. there was a small cross on the right now it doesnt exist anymore i dont think theres a way to delete notification now!! which sucks !!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a similar problem with game notifications. I stopped fbooking for a while and had over 200 various notifications. I don't necessarily want to turn FUTURE notifications off, I just want old ones removed permanently, and no matter how many times I delete or "read" them, they pop right back up after I return to the screen! It's so obnoxious and I just want them gone. Any advice besides blocking the app or changing future notification settings??? Please help!!
ReplyDelete^^ i'm sorry, I was mistaken, I am having trouble with "requests", not notifications. :o\ As in for the games and applications... free gifts, updates, etc... Help!!
ReplyDeletemy bf does delete his notifications some how. like he has had many and now he has 2. everyday the same two. i have tried everything and cant do that to mine. or bring his back.

IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN DELETE A NOTIFICATION ??#
PLEASE HELP !!!
yess please......I am getting a lot of notifications and i am trying to delete them!! For example if i add someone, i get a notification that so and so accepted your freind request and i really want to delete that!! any clues>??! please some advice would help thnx :)
ReplyDeleteNotifications that come into the globe icon cannot be deleted on FB.
ReplyDeleteis there a way to delete all notifications on the profile page at once. such as all the farmville posts that are always being published to my page.
ReplyDeleteDoing some research on it, give me some time to respond.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand you can go to your notification page, adjust your settings and not receive notifications at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious pmany people want the CHOICE to be able to delete items from their notification history, or to clear it entirely. So why doesn't facebook give that to us. It was there once before, or at least I assume so from some of the above posts. So why did facebook TAKE AWAY that otion from us? I too have a dire need to remove certain notifications from my notification history page, and would love the option to do so to prevent unwanted drama as there IS a person has my password, and would become very suspicious if I changed it. Why can't facebook give us that option back, to delete certain (or all) notifications from the globe?
ReplyDeleteplease put back the X sign next to the notification on FB. i want to delete my notifications!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. Please give us the option of deleting Notifications that we have read (on our Notifications page or at the World icon). Personally, I think that they remain there permanently for FB's personal reasons and not in our best interests. Why else would they give us the functionality and then take it away?)
ReplyDeleteI've deactivated my account for a couple days now would it delete all my notification glob icon? I need them all deleted!!
ReplyDeleteHey there, I have read most of this topic and I could find what I was looking for. My facebook has this realy weird BUG, it shows me notifications from week before and not my new ones, also when i try to change my language from my current to English when I click somewhere else it resets back to my old one. I would be really greatfull if anyone can help me ;]
ReplyDeleteI need the option to delete an inappropriate notification from my FB. Please bring back the opportunity to do this!
ReplyDeletei dont understant the fb why they dont make option to delete notification all world use facebook and they cant delete notification facebook sucks!!!
ReplyDeleteI accidentally "liked" a status that I wasnt supposed to like, so i unliked it and deactivated my account so that my friend wouldnt be able to see the notification. What happens if i reactivate my account? would the notification still be there? would she be able to see it? will fb show her the red button which means she has a new notification, even if I had dectivated my account for a couple of days now?
ReplyDeleteUsually it will not show up since your account has been deactivated for a few days. All Clear!
ReplyDeleteWell I just sent fb a suggestion to bring back the option to delete notifications like we were able to do before! I for some reason got a notification from an ex fb friend and its annoying me, and someone in particular cannot see this! I did not put anything on this persons page to even get a notification haven't talked to them in 2 months! why would a get a notification about somebody's wall post??? I want to remove it now!
ReplyDeleteEX: XXXNAME and XXXNAME commented on XXXNAME's wall post
ReplyDeleteNone of these three people are on my friends list, but where at one time, mine as well of two of them i know is set to private, why would i receive a notification from people that aren't on my friends list
how can i remove a bug? someone send me a message i accidentally open the link. and when i denied the message, it link to all my fb friends. how can i removed this?
ReplyDeleteSeems like everybody talks about how to hide notifications from OTHERS, but i want to hide my OWN notifications from others seeing them - so, if anyone knows, how to hide from others when i add a new picture or comment somebody, I don't want others to see it rightaway on their homepage... I don't mean prevent them seeing my photos and comments at all, but only the notification about them :D Anyone???? Please help! :)
ReplyDeleteI want to delete a notification of an accepted friend request, its urgent. How do i do that? please help me.
ReplyDeletethats Right thanks
ReplyDeleteI am SO tired of my system stalling when someone either "likes" something on my wall or comments on something on my wall!!!!! My whole system stops until the stupid little box ----so and so "liked" your status or so and so "commented on your status" decides to go away (very slowly I must add). I do believe I will eventually see these things on my own when I go to my home page. I WANT IT GONE!
ReplyDeleteIf you accidentally clicked on the 'Like' button and don't want others to see that notifications. Click on profile immediately and find the notification on your wall and click the (X0 on the right hand side of that notification, that should do it.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything we can do so that "XXX has accepted your friend request" would not pop up on our notifications?
ReplyDeleteit wont let me delete notificATION ON MY FACEBOOK THOUGHS NUMBERS ARE KEEPING ME FROM PLAYING GAMES.IT MAKES THE GAMES GO SLOWERE HELP
ReplyDeleteI accidentally hit the "hide" option for a friend's status. How do I undo this?
ReplyDeleteWe do have a page for this which can be found here. http://www.sociolatte.com/2010/01/how-to-hide-or-unhide-friends-on.html
ReplyDeleteI was having the same problem, I needed to block a notification that said that so and so accepted my friend request and couldn't figure out how to delete it. It went away when I went to "so and so's profile and blocked them from my account. I hope that helps.
ReplyDeletehey I want to clear my notofications in "Your Notifications Page". can we do that?
ReplyDeleteDave,
ReplyDeleteHow do you turn off messages like:
"XX is now friends with ABC and 3 other people." (XX = me ofcourse)
I dont want nobody to know to whom I just became friends with... I cant find a button for it nowhere.
Dont want no drama about nothing in the future, and with these messages there will be unfortunately.
Please help!
The only thing that can be done is to go to your profile page and click the (X) to delete the notification.
ReplyDeleteFB is behaving really strange. Every day I accept and send 'gifts'. Today I have accepted 20 gifts but they keep popping back up in my Applications even though I have already accepted them. I have deleted each and every one but when I return to the Home page they are all there again! Help.
ReplyDeleteI dont receive notifications after liking, dont know what happened...help me?
ReplyDeletefor those who want to delete notifications, you have to go to the person's profile from whom you receive the notification and block that person. So far it's the only way. If you unblock the person the notification will reappear. If the notification is about you been tagged in a photo, go and untag yourself and block the person after which you can unblock because the notification will no longer appear. I hope this was helpful.
ReplyDeleteHello, how to I stop receiving notifications when people "like" my photos? I can't seem to find that option in the notifications setting under photos. Can you pls help?
ReplyDeleteAlso, is there a way to delete read notifications?
Thank you.
There does not seem to be any way to do this as the option to not receive notifications when someone 'Likes' a photo is not even listed.
ReplyDeleteI accidentally tagged a whole load of people in a photo that said 'Click here to see who views your profile'. I deleted the photo but is there a way to stop them seeing the notification
ReplyDeleteI have done the marked as spam, but,I heard that wasn't good.Is there any way I can delete them all at once, instead of doing it 1 by 1
ReplyDeletegood info
ReplyDeleteYou can now control the email frequency and choose the receive a summary instead of individual emails. Summary emails will include photo tag, payment information, security and privacy notifications. These mails will be sent only if you missed popular activity.
ReplyDeleteTo do this
you will need to click on the Globe Icon
Scroll down and click on 'See all notifications'
Then you would need to click on notifications settings found on the top right-hand part of your profile
Now you need to tick the box just below 'Email Frequency"
Hope this helps for what it's worth.
This does not allow us to filter out specific people, unfortunately. While they may be removed from the news feed, people in certain lists appear to be almost compulsory features in the notifications list whether I am subscribed to them or not, and whether or not I have removed their posts from my news feed. Marking individual notifications as spam is not appropriate, and it does nothing to halt subsequent notifications for that person. There is no other option to filter them out of the notifications list. I have yet to determine if removing certain friends from my 'close friends' list makes any difference (I have only just tried it).
ReplyDeleteWhat you say is quiet right. Please do let us know if removing from close friends makes any difference.
ReplyDeletehow to see mentoned notificationsss.....
ReplyDeleteplease telll me yar i knw wats the deal...about seeing mentioned comments...?
ReplyDeletekuttto kamino.............begiarto...kanjro/////dalooooooooo replyyyy karooooo....begarto..........haram diyo.......
ReplyDeleteyar reply to karo...............
ReplyDeleteDo you mean when others mention you on Facebook?
ReplyDeleteWhy is "mark as spam" the only way to delete a notification? Why can't I just delete a notificiation similar to deleting an email?
ReplyDeleteI am trying to clean up my notification stream from friends that mistake it for Twitter and just send dozens every day. I'm going to have to unfriend them if I can't stop it another way.
ReplyDeletei don't see where it says "Remove".?
ReplyDeleteI don't think all these suggestions work with Firefox because I couldn't get the "hide" suggestion to work in Firefox.
ReplyDelete
