In the span of just 48 hours this week, two separate juries in two different US states delivered verdicts that could reshape the entire social media industry — not because of the dollar amounts involved, but because of what those verdicts legally establish for the first time. On Tuesday, March 24, a jury in Santa Fe, New Mexico ordered Meta to pay $375 million for failing to protect children from sexual exploitation on Facebook and Instagram. Oprah Winfrey is scheduled to meet with some of the leaders in the Social Media industry and the topic - How to boost traffic to Oprah.com. The site is a joint venture between Oprah and Discovery Communications. The problem that has arisen is this; the traffic to her website has decreased since her daytime talk-show ended in May. According to ComScore data shows that the site received 5.1 million visitors in January but only 2.4 million in July. The gathering is expected to happen at the home of Sheryl Sandberg - COO Facebook, according to the Post. Also expected to attend are Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, Demand Media’s Richard Rosenblatt and LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner, among others, it said.Winfrey will bring executives from her TV production company, Harpo and Hearst, which publishes Oprah’s magazine.
There could be many reasons why the visitor numbers have fallen. For one the show has ended and therefore the popularity. What people need is constant visibility and when that goes so do the visitors. Unless of course you are a god-man and people follow you wherever you go.
The good news is that she will be appearing on Facebook Live on the 8th of September. The one-hour event starts at 1:30 p.m. PT/4:30 p.m. ET if you do miss it you can always watch the recorded version later. Her Facebook and Twitter pages however are really going strong.
