What is a Phablet?
Everyone is familiar with the word phone and tablet but what about Phablet. Well, a phablet is a cross between a phone and a tablet - designed primarily to combine the functionality of a smartphone with that of a tablet. Screen sizes of a phablet typically range between 5 - 7 inches. Phablets are usually larger in size that most smartphones but smaller that a regular tablet or for that matter of fact a miniature tablet. A good example being the Samsung Galaxy Note series. In fact they have grown so much in popularity that ABI research expects 208 million of them to be sold in 2015. In fact the Samsung Galaxy Note with its 5.3 inch display sold more than 5 million units in its first 5 months of being released.
The popularity of these devices stems from the fact that people are able to pocket than and move around. A tablet might be too large and the screen of a smartphone much too small. Since the devices are primarily used for media consumption. There is a lot of debate as to the use of the work Phablet - maybe Smarblet or Taphs, Slabs or Smartbooks. The debate will rage on with people searching for a better name than Phablet. Until a name is found however the work 'Phablet' is being used.
